A war hotel? A haven of peace! Located under 500 metres from the border between Spain and Portugal, the Domus Real Fuerte de la Concepción is a paradise for lovers of history, the countryside and tranquillity, and also for those looking for a one-off experience. Converted into a luxury hotel in 2012, this fort built in the seventeenth century is closely linked to the long history of unions and disunions between Spain and Portugal.
Designed by military engineer Pedro Moreau, the construction of the fort was undertaken by the master builder Manuel de Larra Churriguera, who also built Salamanca's Plaza Mayor, or main square. This historical, artistic hotel complex is composed of seven stone buildings forming a star-shaped, Vauban-style fort. The fort hotel features three dining rooms, a lounge bar, a library, wi-fi access in rooms and public areas, various private conference rooms and 35 luxury suites as well as summer and winter terraces.
Staying within the fort's city walls, our clients enjoy a unique 3000 m2 courtyard where the silence of the Salamancan plains contrasts with the gentle sound of flowing water. This oasis of peace and tranquillity is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway, for business meetings or for holding weddings or banquets with a difference.
The area where the Real Fuerte de la Concepción is set is possibly one of the least known of the Peninsula. This is why there is not one single guest who leaves here without the satisfaction of having discovered a hidden treasure.
