It had been the emperor’s plan for reorganizing the city layout. In the epicentre of the great fire he later ordered the building of the Domus Aurea, the House of Gold, which was to be the emperor’s new seat. “At last, I shall be able to begin to live like a human being”, exclaimed Nero as he entered the Domus Aurea for the first time.
